Eye surgery is still dangerous

When LASIK eye surgery first started, people were naturally pretty nervous about it. After all, it required a laser to be used on the eye, working to correct the vision. Perhaps it was just the culture of science fiction movies, but people didn’t really like the idea of a laser coming in contact with their eyes, and so they approached this development warily.

Over the years, this perception has shifted. People now think of LASIK surgery as something that is pretty safe. It has been around for a long time, it has a pretty good track record, and there is less fear that the laser is going to cause blindness and other serious injuries.

Part of the reason for this, besides the age of the procedure, is that doctors have come out and touted it as a safe practice. They talk about just how painless it is. They tell people about how fast the recovery time is and how they can usually get back to work after just a day or two. They really make a point to stress how safe it is because they know people are not automatically going to look at it with that viewpoint.

The important thing for people in North Carolina to remember is that there is always a risk with surgery of any type. The doctors are not lying in saying that the surgery tends to go very well, but that is not a guarantee, and mistakes happen.
