The effects of a traumatic brain injury differ from one person to the next. For some, making a full recovery is possible. For others, they will have to learn to live with a serious disability for the rest of their life.

Regardless of the seriousness, here is something to consider: Even if you suffer a severe traumatic brain injury, you can make improvements for up to 10 years following the injury.

Generally speaking, traumatic brain injury impacts three parts of a person’s life:

— Sensation. Tactile sensation, such as vision.

— Cognition. Mood, judgment, memory, concentration, and reasoning.

— Movement abilities. Balance, coordination, and strength.

Along with the above, it is not uncommon for a person with a traumatic brain injury to experience some type of behavioral effects, such as irritability, agitation, and aggression. Along with this, it can also result in epilepsy.

If you have any reason to believe that you or a loved one suffered a traumatic brain injury, even if it’s not the most serious injury, it’s important to seek medical advice. A doctor can run a variety of tests on the brain to determine if there are any physical or functional changes.

No type of brain injury is good, as you want this part of the body to function fully at all times. When a person suffers a traumatic brain injury, one’s life could immediately take a turn for the worse. However, with the right treatment and therapy over time, it is possible to make improvement with the hope of once again living a normal life.
