Doctors often fail to refer

On Behalf of | May 26, 2016 | Doctor Errors |

With each passing year, the practice of medicine becomes more and more specialized. While this is a good thing to a certain degree, it can also lead to confusion. For example, family doctors don’t often know when they should diagnose a patient or refer him or her to another medical professional.

There are many reasons why doctors fail to refer. For example, doctors are faced with financial pressure because they don’t want to lose your business. Along with this, doctors often neglect to do this because of a misdiagnosis. They fail to identify what is actually wrong with you, so they have no reason to refer you to somebody else.

In a perfect world, a family doctor would have no problem referring a patient when it is necessary. In the real world, however, this does not always happen. Instead, a doctor attempts to do everything on his or her own, which can lead to trouble in the future.

At our law firm, we understand how important it is for doctors to refer patients to other medical professionals when necessary. We also know that this does not always happen, and that the patient can be harmed as a result.

It’s hard to learn that you were injured or became ill due to a doctor who failed to provide a referral, but this is something that often happens in the medical world.
