North Carolina Lawyer Handling Emergency Room Error Lawsuits

People do not go to an emergency room unless there is something very wrong. Often, the problem is more acute than even the patient suspects. Because the atmosphere is so fast-paced, there is little room for error. Mistakes can easily be fatal in an ER. If you or someone you love has suffered because of ER error or emergency room malpractice, talk to a lawyer about your options.

At the Melvin Law Firm, our North Carolina emergency room error attorney has a proven record of success in lawsuits against hospitals and emergency care providers. Our Greenville firm has the resources needed to take on these powerful entities, and we have done so in cases all across the state.

Serving clients in Raleigh, Greensboro and throughout the state. Call the Melvin Law Firm at 800-391-8191 for more information on ER malpractice.

Failure to Diagnose

Most mistakes in the emergency room result from failure to run the right tests. For example, in the case a heart attack, if someone complains of chest pains, the staff is supposed to order an EKG or a stress test. If that is done, the tests will point out the problem and it can often be fixed before permanent damage is done.

Sometimes, however, the right tests are not done. Because timely treatment is crucial to a good outcome for the patient in an emergency room, this lack of proper testing can have very serious consequences. A patient with chest pain may be discharged too early, when a heart attack could have been prevented.

Lost in the Shuffle

Another common source of ER error in North Carolina is a result of overcrowding. People sometimes wait for hours before a doctor sees them. If they are not triaged properly, their condition could get much worse while waiting for attention. Other times, tests may be done but the results of the test are not reviewed by a doctor until it is too late. Or, a test may be read by the doctor, but the appropriate follow-up is not given.
