What are the symptoms of a concussion?

While you understand the seriousness of a concussion, you may not know how to pinpoint this injury. As a result, you could avoid treatment and end up in a worse position in the end.

Fortunately, there are many common symptoms of a concussion. Knowing these can go a long way in helping you get the treatment you need, without delay.

Here are the signs and symptoms to be aware of:

— Headache accompanied by a feeling of pressure.

— Confusion.

— Temporary loss of consciousness.

— Vomiting.

— Nausea.

— Dizziness.

— Slurred speech.

— Fatigue.

— A feeling of being dazed.

— Delayed response to questions.

While some symptoms of concussions are presented right away, such as those above, there are others that can be delayed for as long as several days. These include but are not limited to:

— Sleep disturbances.

— Memory issues.

— Sensitivity to noise and light.

— Disorders related to smell and taste.

— Depression and other psychological adjustment issues.

Just because a person suffers from one or more of these symptoms does not mean that he or she definitely has a concussion. However, when these are followed by a blow to the head, there is a good chance that a concussion is the culprit.

When you know the symptoms of a concussion, you may be able to pinpoint this issue on your own so you can best deal with the problem. Of course, if you are experiencing any concussion symptoms, you don’t want to treat the issue on your own. You need to seek professional medical advice.
