Pregnancy complications don’t always have to happen

There are not many things in life more exciting than being pregnant. During this time, you do your best to remain safe and healthy. This means eating right, going to the doctor and taking care of your body.

Unfortunately, you aren’t the only person in charge during this busy time of your life. You also need to rely on the assistance of a medical team to provide you with a high level of care. It only takes one missed test or one mistake on a chart, to cause harm to you and/or your baby.

Some pregnancy complications are natural. These have nothing to do with a medical error. Conversely, there are complications brought on by medical negligence. This can include but is not limited to:

Gestational diabetes. If this is not diagnosed in a timely manner, it can cause problems during the pregnancy and at birth.

— Long labor. Waiting too long to perform a cesarean section can be dangerous.

— Pre-term labor. Lack of diagnosis or a misdiagnosis can cause pre-term labor, thus increasing the chance of harm to the mother and baby.

— Misread ultrasound.

No matter how you look at it, a pregnancy complication can be tragic. Some mistakes do have happy endings, but this is not a risk anybody should be willing to take.
