What are the causes of cerebral palsy?

As a pregnant woman, you may be worried about the overall health of your baby. For this reason, you do whatever you can to avoid trouble and keep your unborn child as healthy as possible.

Cerebral palsy is a brain injury that can hold back brain development leading to future trouble with muscle coordination, reflex, posture, and fine motor skills (among other issues).

It is important to note that no two cases of cerebral palsy are exactly the same. This is what makes the condition so difficult to deal with and treat.

There are times when cerebral palsy happens as the result of an environmental factor or genetics. There are also times when this is the result of medical negligence. For example, asphyxia during delivery can damage the brain. The same holds true of anything else that starves the brain of oxygen during the birthing process.

Unfortunately, there is no sure fire way to guarantee that your child is not born with cerebral palsy. The best thing you can do is choose a medical team that you trust, ensuring that they will monitor your baby’s health at all times.

As an expecting parent, you have a lot on your mind. The health of your baby is most important, so don’t sweep this under the rug. Instead, you should do whatever you can to monitor your child’s health, which includes holding your medical team accountable.

If your child is diagnosed with cerebral palsy, you should first learn what this means. From there, find out what happened with an eye towards the cause.
