Lack of monitoring after surgery could carry fatal repercussions

When a patient in North Carolina or elsewhere is admitted to the hospital with severe injuries, there is a chance the condition might prompt a need for a surgical operation. Even if the operation goes well, it may still be vital to monitor the patient’s condition during recovery to ensure that the outcome thereof has the intended effect. A family in another state recently accused a hospital of medical negligence after an incident involving similar circumstances led to the death of a 24-year-old man.

Internal bleeding

Reports indicate that the incident began when the man was admitted to the hospital after suffering a kidney injury during a skiing accident. After treatments proved unsuccessful in stopping the internal bleeding, doctors decided to perform a procedure to remove his kidney. However, the family states that after performing the surgery, no action was taken to evaluate his condition and determine whether the operation was successful in stopping the bleeding.

The man was discharged from the hospital a few days later and reports indicate that he passed away just hours thereafter. Reports indicate that an autopsy revealed that the cause of death was internal bleeding. The family has accused the hospital of negligence and claims that if the proper precautions had been taken, the death of their loved one would have been entirely preventable.

Negligence

Medical negligence is a concern that continues to affect many families and those who lose someone close due to similar issues may experience an understandable need for answers. Following such a loss, a person in North Carolina could find it helpful to consult with an experienced attorney for guidance on his or her available options and on the best course of action with which to proceed. Such advice could prove integral to placing a person in a better position to pursue the restitution entitled through a claim against the party or parties deemed responsible.
